About us
About us
We are the specialists in movement-related issues. When suffering from complaints or injuries to the muscular-skeletal system you can make an appointment without referral from a medical doctor. Complaints can be caused by movements or posture during daily life activities as well as resulting from work and sports activities. Other services are taping of joints, advice on sports injuries and prevention, advice on a brace, sports massage.
A treatment session will last approximately 30 minutes. At the first appointment there will be an intake and assessment followed by developing an individual treament plan. In most cases the treatment will also commence during the first appointment.

Meet the team

Jacques Poppe
Jacques graduated in Groningen in 1987, after which he completed the post-graduate course in acupuncture in 1989. He then worked in Amsterdam until 1996, treating mainly top athletes, musicians, dancers and people working in entertainment. From 1996 to 2000, Jacques worked in a rehabilitation centre in Florida and a practice in Kauai, Hawaii. From 2000-2006 he returned to Amsterdam to work in a sports practice in combination with Jaco Rehab in Honolulu. In 2006, Jacques started an orthopaedic sports-focused practice in The Hague within Healthclub Statensport.
Jacques is available on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Ward van Rijssen
Ward graduated in 2015 as a physiotherapist in Groningen. In 2019, he graduated with a Masters in Manual Therapy from the SOMT in Amersfoort. He proceeded to specialise in shoulder complaints. To provide increasingly better care, Ward has also immersed himself in performing ultrasound examinations, in order to reach a better diagnosis and more targeted treatment plan. Besides being interested in examining spinal (related) complaints, he also specialised in examining and treating sports injuries and tendon problems. During his studies, he himself played sports at national level and coached (top) athletes as a physiotherapist.
Ward is available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Berend Kaster
Berend graduated from the Leiden University of Applied Sciences in 2015. After his Bachelors, he started working at a sports practice linked to the sports club HBS in the groves of Pex, where he himself played football in the first team. Through this, he gained an affinity for treating injuries in a sports environment, which led him to start the Masters in Sports Physiotherapy at the Utrecht University of Applied Sciences in 2019. He completed this in 2022. Besides being interested in sports injuries, Berend also performs ultrasounds. In 2018, Berend started working freelance, alongside his job at HBS, at Staten Fysio & Sportsrehab, which he still enjoys doing today. The combination of working in a gym and at a sports club makes him treat exactly the patient population he specialises in!
Berend is available on Wednesday, and Friday.

Wouter Bakker
Wouter graduated as a physiotherapist in Leiden in 2012 and obtained his Masters of Manual Therapy from the SOMT in Amersfoort in 2019. He has since gained extensive experience at various practices in treating a wide range of (top) athletes, from combat to ball athletes. As a former top athlete, Wouter knows what it takes to perform optimally and rehabilitate responsibly. Every day, he uses this experience to help patients recover in a goal-oriented way. He also helps non-athletes become more active, focusing on the overall picture: recovery, prevention, and a healthy lifestyle. Wouter specialises in knee problems, (sports) rehabilitation, dry needling, taping, motivational interviewing, and muscle and tendon problems. As a manual therapist, he focuses on headache, dizziness complaints as well as (work-related) neck and back problems.
Wouter is available on Monday, and Thursday.

Rhode Thijssen
Rhode graduated as a physiotherapist from the Thim University of Physiotherapy in 2024. In 2024, she also did her Master's degree in Sports and Exercise Physiotherapy in Madrid. Here, she had the opportunity to assist many (top) athletes with injury rehabilitation. Since her Masters, she has been gaining a lot of experience treating many different physical injuries. Currently, she is also participating in sports at a high level herself. With this experience, she is able to understand and guide other (top) athletes on how to deal with physical discomfort. Her specialism in sports rehabilitation, dry needling, and taping makes the gym at Staten Physio a fantastic place for her to work.
Rhode is available on Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Our physiotherapists are registered in the BIG register, are members of the Quality Register of Keurmerk Fysiotherapie and the complaints procedure of Keurmerk Fysiotherapie. Since 2018, the practice has been certified by HCA, Health Care Auditing.
